Amy Pieters: "Great to see Dwars Door Vlaanderen evolving"

12 December 2017

The new Dwars Door Vlaanderen route remains the talk of the town. From 2018 Dwars Door Vlaanderen has been put on a new date on the calendar, four days befor the Ronde van Vlaanderen. On March 28 2018 the riders will be presented with a new parcours, Kluisberg and Knokteberg being the eye-catchers. By creating its own identity, Dwars Door Vlaanderen has been met with approval, both by cyclists and fans. One of those proponents is threefold winner Amy Pieters.

"Dwars Door Vlaanderen remains one of my favourite Belgian classics", says Pieters. "Because I was victorious in 2014, 2015 and 2016, it has a special place in my heart. I think the new route is promising. I hope to be there again next year at the starting line."

Swapping Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg for Kluisberg and Knokteberg and thereby choosing for an own identity, is a positive evolution, says Pieters. "The organisation has always been great, by seeing how Dwars Door Vlaanderen is evolving to a race of the highest international level, is great to see. This race wouldn't look bad on the Women's WorldTour-calendar."
